Imposter (the "App") is a party word game. It can be played entirely on one device, and it can also be played online with other people. What leaves your device depends on which of those you do, so this policy describes both.
There are no advertisements, no analytics, no crash reporting, no tracking, and no third-party SDKs anywhere in the App. Nothing is ever sold or shared with advertisers or data brokers.
Nothing leaves your device. Settings, the names you type in, and scoreboard totals are kept in standard on-device storage and are deleted when you delete the App. The App does not need an internet connection to be played this way.
Online rooms are relayed by our own server at imposter.v2030.net. While you are in a
room, these are sent to it and passed to the other players in that room:
Room contents are held in memory only for as long as the room is alive and are discarded when it empties. They are not written to a database, and no history of your games is kept.
The App generates a random identifier on your device. It is the private credential used to reconnect you to a room after a dropped connection, and it is never shown to other players. From it the server derives a public friend code using a one-way hash; the friend code is what other players see and what lets them add you. The identifier itself cannot be recovered from the friend code.
You may create an account so that your identity and friends list follow you to another device. Accounts are entirely optional — every feature except cross-device friends works without one.
If you create one, our server stores your chosen username, your password in salted and hashed form (scrypt — the password itself is never stored and cannot be read back), and your friends list. Nothing else.
If you sign in with Apple instead, Apple gives us an identifier that is unique to you and to this App, and your name only if you choose to share it. We use them solely to create or find your account. We never receive your Apple password, and if you choose Hide My Email we never receive your email address either.
People you have added as friends can see whether you are currently in the App and whether you are in a game, so that they can invite you. That status exists only while you have the App open and is not recorded.
You can delete your account from inside the App at any time: open Play Online and use Delete Account in the Account panel, under your username. This immediately and permanently removes your username, your stored credential, your Apple sign-in link, and your friends list from our server. It cannot be undone.
If you never created an account, there is nothing on our server to delete — deleting the App removes everything.
The App is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. No account is required to play, and the App asks for no personal information beyond a display name of your choosing, which need not be your real name.
